Why to care about packing?

With the airlines crisis and the tight competition in this industry, airlines needed to find ways of reducing costs. One way of reducing costs and also increasing income, they started to regulate more carefully the passenger's luggage. This is critical in low-cost airlines all over the world but also for international flights.

This is when packing a suitcase comes into play. You need save space and think about weight more carefully when you travel. There are certain things you need to do before packing:

  1. check what the baggage regulations are for the airline you are travelling with.
  2. check the clothes you are going to need (weather, events you plan to attend, gifts, etc).
  3. choose a practical bag. Avoid bulky and heavy bags!

Do you hate packing?

There are many reasons to hate packing. It is stressful, because you need to decide which clothes to wear, what shoes, decide what else to bring and everything needs to be well thought because on top of that you need to think about space and weight.

Add also to the mix that packing is usually the last thing we normally do before leaving for the airport or jumping on the car, so it is also against the clock.

The general rules for packing are:

  1. Think about it and bring with you only the things you are positive you are going to use. If you can, think about how you are going to use every item you put in the bag.
  2. Make use of any space in the bag. Use uniform clothes to maximise the use of space. For example, jeans and trousers can be on the bottom, then instead of folding in a traditional way the t-shirts, roll them up. You can save a lot of space by doing that. Then the shoes and fill them with the socks. Then fill any gaps with underwear, then shirts and then jacket or sweater on top.
