65Knee Injuries
There are several different
types of knee injuries that can occur to a person depending upon
different factors such as how one injures their knee and how they land
just for example. They can vary in a wide range of pain from only
hurting at certain times to making the injured be in extreme pain all
the time. If you are not familiar with all the different types of knee
injuries one can suffer from, how to prevent them, and what sort of
treatments are available here is a guide for you.
In general many knee injuries occur because the injured person has
fallen somehow and either landed on their knee or twisted it. This can
happen due to a slippery surface, a hole in the ground, thick branch
and root on the ground or many other scenarios that can cause one to
fall and land on their knee or twist their knee in the process. Other
ways knee injuries can occur from recreational activities such as
cycling, running or working out too strenuously.
There are several different types of knee injuries. In the cases that
are considered more mild one may do damage to their ligaments or medial
meniscus which can include damage to their anterior cruciate ligament.
while not considered to be a major injury it can still be very painful.
Torn ligaments may require surgery in which case a surgeon will make a
minor incision and go in and carefully fix the problem. This is not
considered a major surgery and is done on ever younger people easily.
Those who suffer a more significant knee injury may suffer from a
fracture of the patella and damage to this particular tendon. To fix
this type of injury one will need a certain type of surgery that
involves the surgeon going in and putting in different types of screws,
wires, and other types of objects that will help it heal correctly.
Physical therapy is often required for even the smallest of knee
injuries. Your doctor may only require you go in once a week for a
small amount of physical therapy or he may require for larger injuries
that you go see a trained physical therapist several times a week.

Some months ago I suffered a knee injury. In my blog I talk about my experience about knee injuries, the recovery process, since the time that I got injured, my first visit to the doctor, the scans, the threapy until hopefully, full recovery.
Vastus medialis
Therapy for patellofemoral pain
Most of patellofemoral pain is treated with physiotherapy, which in turn, in most cases, consists of strengthen the vastos medialis muscle. This muscle is the inner thigh muscle and helps to keep in place the patella and supports the knee functioning in general.
In my experience, that is the first treatment the doctor and physiotherapist gave me. The excersices consisted of lifting the affected leg around 15 to 20 cm from the ground with the leg straight and the toes twisted outwards (clock wise for the right leg, counter clock wise for the left leg). Four series of 12 repetitions and keeping the leg lifted for 12 seconds for each repetition.
